Lawless not silenced

Last Thursday afternoon, Jennifer Lawless held a press conference outside Representative James Langevin's campaign office to attack his support for the war in Iraq and highlight her own plan for withdrawal.  Vietnam Veteran, Steve Rabson expressed his disappointment in Langevin and introduced Lawless.

The Langevin campaign, however, decided to drown out Lawless' voice.  They tried to make as much noise as possible, running lawn mowers, air blowers, and a large dump truck.  They even went so far as to rev the truck's engine and repeatedly drive it back and forth in the small parking lot in-between the press conference and Langevin's office.  Besides the fact that this created a ridiculous amount of pollution, these antics did nothing to counter or silence Lawless' powerful message.

Even with all the background noise, Lawless thrived, screaming over the commotion with poise and determination.  What's worse, though, than making all the noise while Lawless was speaking, was doing so over the veteran's speech.  Rabson, who had prepared his remarks and courageously spoke out against the war, deserved more from an incumbent Congressman than a dump truck and lawn mowers.  He deserved respect.

Spread the movement!

I think it goes without saying that Lieberman has now learned the hard way that siding with Republicans instead of everyday Americans is not what people are looking for right now.  We need real leaders who are willing to stand up to everything that is going wrong in Washington and look out for the people who need it the most--working families.  As a Connecticut student, I am extremely proud to support Ned Lamont as the official Democratic nominee for Senate.

It is now up to all of us to realize that this election doesn't stop here.  We need to use all of the momentum we have built up in CT to elect progressive Democrats across the country.  This means ousting Republicans, but it also means getting rid of Democrats like Lieberman who have lost touch both of the needs of their constituents and with what it means to be a Democrat.  It's not enough to take back the Congress--we must do so while also creating a stronger Democratic Party.

Jennifer Lawless is fighting to do this in Rhode Island's 2nd District.  Her opponent, James Langevin votes with Congressional Republicans about 60% of the time--he's voted 27 times against a woman's right to choose, he won't hold President Bush accountable for the mistakes he's made in Iraq, he voted against the needs of everyday Americans when he voted for COPE without net neutrality, and he voted for an assault on our privacy by voting to renew the PATRIOT Act.

This election has proved that Democrats are ready for change.  Let's continue to work together to create the change that every American so strongly deserves.

Jennifer Lawless: A Candidate the Netroots Should Get Behind

Jennifer Lawless, the progressive Democrat running in Rhode Island's 2nd District, is exactly the voice we need in Washington.

There has not been a woman in Rhode Island's Congressional Delegation in 15 years!  This is a disgrace, and now is the perfect time to act.  James Langevin, the Congressman from Rhode Island's 2nd District is a relatively Conservative, anti-choice Democrat and someone who is out of touch with Rhode Islanders on a ton of other issues.

Jen Lawless is progressive straight across the board.  She is a staunch supporter of reproductive freedom.  She has come out against the Patriot Act and the Iraq War and in support of medical marijuana, net neutrality, and renewable energy to name just a few - these are all examples of issues on which Langevin takes the Conservative stance or is just not a progressive leader AT ALL.

Jen has already been endorsed by several national organizations including Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the National Organization for Women PAC, and the Women's Campaign Fund.

Jen is exactly the kind of progressive voice we need more of in Congress.  Visit Jen's website at Jennifer Lawless.
